
#23/22 Syracuse Loses, 78-58, at #8 Louisville

First loss in the last six contests
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 23/22 Syracuse University women's basketball team led by one point after 20 minutes of play, but ultimately lost 78-58 at No. 8/8 Louisville on Thursday night. The loss snapped Syracause's six game winning streak.

For the 16th time in 2014-15, Syracuse (15-6, 5-3) led at halftime, but the team ended up losing for only the third time this season when holding a lead at the intermission. Louisville (19-2, 7-1) was lights out in the latter 20 minutes, knocking down 19-of-29 shots from the field (65 percent).

Senior guard Diamond Henderson scored a team-high 20 points on the road. It marked the third time this year that she had scored at least 20 points, which leads the club. Junior forward Taylor Ford had 10 points, all in the first half.

The Orange led for nearly the entire first half on Thursday night. The host Cardinals took their second lead of the night, 23-22, with 2:20 to go in the opening frame. It was back and forth from there until a late surge by Syracuse.

Down one point with 1:41 left in the first half, Ford completed a 3-point play to put the club back ahead. Louisville tied it up on its next possession, but Syracuse responded with a 3-point field goal from Henderson. The Cardinals bounced right back, but the Orange went to go into the locker room with a 30-29 lead.

Ford was impressive off the bench in the first half for Syracuse. She led the team with 10 points in the opening 20 minutes, accounting for one third of the team's total points. It marked the seventh time in 2014-15 she scored at least 10 points.

Louisville came out firing right out of the gates in the second. The Cardinals started off the frame on a 13-2 run, quickly erasing Syracuse's halftime advantage. With the run, the Orange trailed by double-digits for the first time since Jan. 8 at Duke.

Syracuse was able to make it a seven-point game twice after Louisville's opening run, but it was all Cardinals in the second half. In total, Louisville outscored the Orange, 49-28, in the final 20 minutes of play, en route to a 78-58 loss.

The Orange is back in action on Monday night when it travels to No. 9/9 Florida State for its second straight game against a top-10 opponent. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla. The game will be televised on the Raycom Sports Network, as well.
