
Dixon Named Ray Guy Award Candidate

Orange senior in the running for nation's top punting prize
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Syracuse senior punter Riley Dixon is one of 79 candidates for the 2015 Ray Guy Award, the Augusta Sports Council announced on Friday, Oct. 30. The Ray Guy Award annually recognizes the nation's top collegiate punter.

The official list of candidates includes last year's Ray Guy Award winner, Tom Hackett (Utah), and the two other 2014 finalists – JK Scott (Alabama) and Austin Rehkow (Idaho). Candidates were nominated for the award by their school's sports information department.

Dixon has punted 28 times for 1,227 yards in 2015, an average of 43.8 yards per punt. He currently ranks fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 31st nationally in punting average. He's placed half of his kicks (14) inside the 20-yard line with only one touchback, and has nine punts of 50 yards or more.

His best performance of the season came against Central Michigan on Sept. 19. Dixon punted five times with a net average of 50.4 yards per kick against the Chippewas. Three of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line and none of the five were returned. He was named the Ray Guy Award Player of the Week for the effort.
The list will be candidates will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists on Nov. 13. Following the announcement of the semifinalists, a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision sports information directors, coaches, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists to be announced on Nov. 23. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner.
The presentation of the Ray Guy Award will be featured live on ESPN during "The Home Depot College Football Awards Show" on Dec. 10.

Dixon and the Orange head to Florida State today for tomorrow's game against the 17th-ranked Seminoles. Kickoff is slated for noon at Doak Campbell Stadium.
