Syracuse begins ACC Tournament play on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Freshman Kamal Miller scored his second goal of the season in the 85th minute but the No. 12/-- Syracuse men's soccer team couldn't overcome a first-half deficit in a 2-1 setback at No. --/25 Boston College on Friday, Oct. 30. The Orange finishes with a 3-4-1 conference mark and heads into the ACC Tournament with a 10-5-2 overall record.
Â
"We were poor in the first half," said Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre. "We were second-best and we were punished a couple of times and that put us in a hole. In the second half, we were magnificent. We kept pressing, kept creating chances. We just ran out of time."
Â
The Eagles (9-5-1, 4-4-0) scored both of their goals in the first half. The first came in the 24th minute when Trevor Davock took a through ball from Simon Enstrom and put his shot inside the near post. Boston College added to its lead in the 38th minute. Enstrom intercepted a pass from Syracuse goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert and scored in the empty goal.
Â
The Orange was the more dangerous team in the second half and it broke through in the 85th minute. Redshirt junior Liam Callahan served a deep cross and Miller was there to poke the ball past Eagles' goalkeeper Alex Kapp to cut the deficit to one. Syracuse continued to apply offensive pressure and junior Chris Nanco had two chances to tie the score, but his header went just over the crossbar and his shot with less than two minutes remaining hit the post as Boston College held on for the victory.
Â
Syracuse outshot the Eagles, 17-8, and recorded three corner kicks to two for Boston College. Hilpert recorded one save, while Kapp finished with four.
Â
"I told the team if we play like we did in the second half, we'll be a handful for any team in the conference," McIntyre said. "We will get ready and get excited to host an ACC Tournament game on Wednesday."
Â
The Orange begins play in the ACC Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 8 when it hosts a first-round match. The complete tournament bracket will be announced on Saturday, Oct. 31.
