Syracuse in the NCAA Tournament
- The Orange is 14-10 all-time in the NCAA tournament and has now reached the tournament in eight straight seasons.
-Â Syracuse's appearance in last year's championship game was its first in program history. 'Cuse has been eliminated in the National Semifinals twice (2008, 2012). 4Seniors Alyssa Manley and Emma Russell have each played in 10 career NCAA Tournament games. Russell leads current Orange with 10 career tournament points (4 goals, 2 assists), while Manley has second with four (1 goal, 2 assists).
- Sophomore Liz Sack has emerged thus far in the NCAA Tournament, recording four goals in the first two games of the tournament after only scoring three times in the first-18 games. Alma Fenne also has six points (two goals, two assists) in her first NCAA Tournament.
- Senior goalkeeper Jess Jecko has seven career NCAA Tournament appearances for the Orange. Holding down the net for the Orange, Jecko has 23 career saves and has allowed just nine goals in tournament play.
- Sophomores Laura Hurff and Lies Lagerweij have also contributed points for the Orange in recent NCAA postseason play. Lagerweij has two goals in her six career games in the tournament, while Hurff has a pair of assists in the same amount of gametime. Serra Degnan (1 assist), Roos Weers (2 assists) also have points in NCAA Tournament play.
'Cuse vs. #3 UConn
- Syracuse and UConn have a long history, dating to 1983 when the two teams first met as Big East Rivals.
- The Orange hold a 9-28-1 record in their 38-game series history with the Huskies. However, since Ange Bradley became the head coach of 'Cuse the Orange hold a 6-5 record against the Huskies.
- The two teams squared off 16 times in the Big East Tournament, with Syracuse winning five of such matchups. All five of the wins came in the Big East Championship games (1993, 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2012).
-Â The most recent matchup between the Orange and the Huskies was in last year's National Championship game, which UConn won 2-0. It was senior Jess Jecko's first game in goal against the Huskies, and she recorded two saves while allowing one goal.
- No current member of the Orange has recorded a point in their career against UConn. Seniors Alyssa Manley and Emma Russell have each seen action in three games against UConn, while numerous others saw the field in last year's matchup.
Sack Shines in 2015 Tournament
- After scoring just one goal in 31 games across the first two years of her collegiate career, junior Liz Sack found the back of the net three times in the 2015 regular season, including the game-winning goal on Oct. 11, 2015 against Indiana.
- Already exceeding her regular-season goal total, and matching the total for her career, Sack has erupted for four goals in two games so far in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
- Against #20 UMass, Sack scored two goals in ten minutes, netting one in the 37th minute and another in the 47th minute to propel the Orange to a three-goal half, and a 4-2 victory in the game.
- Sack picked up where she left off just one day later, scoring the first two goals of the game (4th minute, 15th minute) to set the tone for the Orange's 5-0 win against #16 Princeton and advance them to their second straight Final Four.
Familiar Foes
-Â The Orange have faced off with 10 of the 17 other teams in the NCAA Tournament field, holding an 11-1 record in 12 match-ups against them, including the two first and second round wins over UMass and Prinecton recpectively.
- Syracuse has outscored fellow NCAA Tournament teams 47-16 this season, including last weekend's matchups.
- Midfielder Alma Fenne leads the Orange with 30 of her 41 points coming against NCAA Tournament teams. 25 of Roos Weers' 37 points this season have come against tournament teams, while 24 of Emma Russell's 31 have as well.
