SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange football team (3-7, 1-5, ACC) will play its final road contest of the 2015 regular season when its travels to Carter-Finley Stadium to face NC State (6-4, 2-4 ACC) on Saturday, Nov. 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network and Tom Werme (pbp), Riley Skinner (analyst), and Niki Noto (sideline) are on the call.
In its most recent game, Syracuse hung tough with No. 1 Clemson, losing 37-27 on Nov. 14. Sophomore quarterback Zack Mahoney ran for two scores against the Tigers and the Orange defense forced three turnovers to help make it a one score game heading into the fourth quarter.
NC State is coming off a 34-17 loss at Florida State on Nov. 14. The Wolfpack led 17-7 before falling to the Seminoles. Redshirt senior quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw for 209 yards and a touchdown. Brissett also ran for a score.
SYRACUSE-NC STATE CONNECTIONSÂ
Syracuse's Julian Whigham, Ted Taylor and NC State's Shawn Boone and Trace Batten all played at Dwyer High School in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer, defensive line coach Tim Daoust, and running backs coach DeAndre Smith all coached with NC State offensive coordinator Matt Canada and offensive line coach Mike Uremovich at Northern Illinois in 2002. Northern Illinois finished that season with an 8-4 overall record and 7-1 mark in MAC competition. Its only conference loss came in the season finale against Toledo.
Shafer also coached with Canada at Indiana in 1992. Shafer was in his second season as a graduate assistant, while Canada was a student coach, working with the running backs.
Shafer, Daoust, offensive coordinator Tim Lester, offensive line coach Joe Adam, and tight ends coach Jake Moreland all coached with NC State safeties coach Clayton White at Western Michigan in 2006. Shafer was the defensive coordinator, while Daoust served as the defensive line coach, Lester coached quarterbacks, Adam was a graduate assistant, Moreland coached tight ends, and White coached defensive backs. Western Michigan led the nation in interceptions and sacks that season.

Wolfpack receivers coach George McDonald was part of the Syracuse coaching staff from 2013-2014.Â
GETTING THE LOOSE BALL
Syracuse has recovered 11 fumbles through 10 games in 2015. Currently, the club ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and fifth in the nation in fumbles recovered.
Three members of the program have recovered two fumbles during the 2015 season. Sophomore safety Antwan Cordy picked up a fumble and ran it back 44 yards for a touchdown at Virginia on Oct. 17. Cordy is one of three defenders with two fumble recoveries on the year. Steven Clark and Marqez Hodge are the others.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
For the second straight season, the Wolfpack has reached the six-win plateau and is eligible for bowl competition.
NC State possesses one of the top return games nationally. Freshman wide receiver Nyheim Hines ranks second in the ACC and eighth in the country in kickoff return average (28.5). Junior wide receiver Bra'Lon Cherry ranks third in the conference and eighth in the nation in punt return average (13.5).
Junior Matthew Dayes was one of the top running backs in the league before gettting hurt. Dayes averaged 108.1 rushing yards per contest, which is fifth in the conference and 25th in the country. He will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury. Jaylen Samuels has picked up the slack in his absence. Samuels hsa seven rushing touchdowns. He's also the team's top receiver with 57 catches, including six for scores.
On the defensive side of the ball, graduate student defensive end Mike Rose stands out. Rose leads the conference in sacks per game (1.05) and ranks fourth in the nation in that category. Rose is also fourth in the league in tackles for a loss per game (1.4).
THE NC STATE SERIES
Syracuse and NC State will meet for the ninth time on Saturday. The Wolfpack owns a 7-1 edge against the Orange in the all-time series. NC State won the first six meetings between the two programs. The schools have split the last two pairings.Â
In Syracuse's first season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, it claimed its only win against the Wolfpack. The Orange defeated NC State, 24-10, for its first conference win as a league member. SU ran for 362 yards that day, as Jerome Smith rushed for 140 yards and Prince-Tyson Gulley totaled 132 yards on the ground.
The Orange's first-ever overtime contest came against NC State on Aug. 30, 1997. The Wolfpack emerged victorious, 32-31. Quarterback Donovan McNabb connected with tight end Roland Williams for a score in the extra frame, but NC State scored and made the two-point conversion to win.

Syracuse returns home to the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Nov. 28 to take on Boston College. It's Senior Day and the 2015 senior class will be recognized in a brief ceremony before the game. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats 30 minutes before kickoff to recognize their contributions to the program. It's also First Responders' Day, honoring local emergency service personnel.
