Back in the Title Game
- Syracuse is in the final four for the fourth time in program history, and third time in the last-four seasons. This is also the first back-to-back appearance on championship weekend for the Orange after the team advanced to its first NCAA title game appearance last season.
- All-four final four appearances have come in head coach Ange Bradley's tenure. Â
- Seniors Alyssa Manley, Emma Russell and Jess Jecko are the first class to make three final four appearances in their career at Syracuse, advancing to the final weekend of the season in 2012, 2014 and 2015.
Syracuse in the NCAA TournamentÂ
- The Orange is 15-10 all-time in the NCAA tournament and has now reached the tournament in eight straight seasons.
-Â Syracuse's appearance in last year's championship game was its first in program history. 'Cuse had been eliminated in the National Semifinals twice previously (2008, 2012).
- Seniors Alyssa Manley and Emma Russell have each played in 11 career NCAA Tournament games. Russell leads current Orange with 13 career tournament points (5 goals, 3 assists), while Manley has four (1 goal, 2 assists).
- Sophomore Liz Sack has emerged thus far in the NCAA Tournament, recording four goals in the first two games of the tournament after only scoring three times in the first-18 games. Alma Fenne also has 10 points (four goals, two assists) in her first NCAA Tournament.
- Senior goalkeeper Jess Jecko has eight career NCAA Tournament appearances for the Orange. Holding down the net for the Orange, Jecko has 25 career saves and has allowed just 10 goals in tournament play.
- Sophomores Laura Hurff and Lies Lagerweij have also contributed points for the Orange in recent NCAA postseason play. Lagerweij has two goals in her six career games in the tournament, while Hurff has a pair of assists in the same amount of gametime. Serra Degnan (1 assist), Roos Weers (2 assists) also have points in NCAA Tournament play.
'Cuse vs. #1 UNCÂ
-Â After splitting two matchups earlier this year with North Carolina, Syracuse holds a 5-7 all-time record against the Tar Heels.
-Â Head coach Ange Bradley sports a 4-6 record in her coaching career against North Carolina. Bradley was 0-2 against the Tar Heels as the head coach of Richmond, and is 4-4 against them since joining the Orange.
-Â In this year's regular season matchup with North Carolina, the Orange won 4-2 behind three points each from senior Emma Russell (1 g, 1 a) and freshman Roos Weers (1 g, 1 a). Junior Laura Hurff and sophomore Lies Lagerweij also scored in the game, while juniors Emma Lamison and Serra Degnan added assists.Â
-Â In this year's ACC Championship game, the Orange fell to the Tar Heels, 2-1. Weers scored on a penalty stroke in the game. Senior Jess Jecko has started seven games against UNC in her career, allowing 12 goals and making 34 saves.
Fenne's on FireÂ
-Â Senior Alma Fenne has been a leader in the Orange midfield during her lone season with the Orange.Â
-Â Fenne was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week in three-straight weeks heading into the ACC Tournament. The midfielder was also named ACC Offensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-ACC First Team.Â
-Â Fenne scored in six of the Orange's seven games in the month of October, with the lone exception coming in a 4-2 win over No. 19 Princeton, and continued that run into the NCAA Tournament, scoring twice in the national semifinal.
-Â A vital part of the Orange offense, Fenne is averaging 2.7 points per game since the end of September, and has registered at least two points in 11 of the Orange's last-13 contests, highlighted by a career day against Wake Forest.
-Â Against the Demon Deacons, Fenne netted three goals and registered an assist in the first half alone of a 6-0 route of the nation's No. 6-ranked team.
Sack Shines in 2015 Tournament
- After scoring just one goal in 31 games across the first two years of her collegiate career, junior Liz Sack found the back of the net three times in the 2015 regular season, including the game-winning goal on Oct. 11, 2015 against Indiana.
- Already exceeding her regular-season goal total, and matching the total for her career, Sack has erupted for four goals in two games so far in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
- Against #20 UMass, Sack scored two goals in ten minutes, netting one in the 37th minute and another in the 47th minute to propel the Orange to a three-goal half, and a 4-2 victory in the game.
- Sack picked up where she left off just one day later, scoring the first two goals of the game (4th minute, 15th minute) to set the tone for the Orange's 5-0 win against #16 Princeton and advance them to their second straight Final Four.
Familiar Foes
-Â The Orange have faced off with 11 of the 17 other teams in the NCAA Tournament field, holding an 12-1 record in 13 match-ups against them, including the three wins thus far in NCAA Tournament play.
- Syracuse has outscored fellow NCAA Tournament teams 50-17 this season, including those matchups.
- Midfielder Alma Fenne leads the Orange with 34 of her 45 points coming against NCAA Tournament teams. 25 of Roos Weers' 37 points this season have come against tournament teams, while 27 of Emma Russell's 34 have as well.
Syracuse and UConn will hit the field attempting to get back to the NCAA title game on Friday at Noon.Â
