Orange Shows Grit At Harvard Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Syracuse women's tennis team saw its final action of the fall season over the weekend at the Harvard Invitational, concluding the three-day tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Orange was matched up with Harvard, Pittsburgh and Boston.
"It was a very productive weekend from a developmental standpoint," head coach Younes Limam said. "I was very pleased on how we are competing and how much grit and fight we showed."
Freshmen Gabriela Knutson and Maria Tritou combined to go 8-3 over the weekend. Despite losing her first match on Friday, Knutson bounced back with two consecutive wins in singles play. Tritou also finished 2-1 over the weekend, but had solid performances teaming up with sophomore Nicole Mitchell in doubles play.
Knutson and junior Olivia Messineo were 2-1 playing with each other in doubles, including wins over Harvard and Boston.
"Gabriela had some great wins against quality players over this weekend," Limam said. "Nicole and Olivia did a great job in doubles and are playing the bigger points better. Maria stepped up and was fearless, playing at the level that we know she is capable of."
Tritou and Mitchell won both of the games that they played with each other in doubles, starting with an 8-5 victory over Harvard. The duo then took down Pittsburgh 8-7 (5).
