12/16/2015 9:22:00 AM | Football
MOBILE, Ala. – Orange punter Riley Dixon is among the latest group of outgoing college football stars to accept an invitation to participate in the 67th Reese's Senior Bowl, the organization announced earlier this week.
Â
The addition of Dixon and 10 other players, including All-Americans Jeremy Cash (Duke), Josh Doctson (TCU), Spencer Drango (Baylor) and Ka'imi Fairbairn (UCLA), brings the total number of committed participants for this year's event to 82.
Â
Dixon is the 55th Orange standout to earn a Senior Bowl invitation, and the contest is the second senior all-star game he has committed to playing in. Dixon also accepted an invitation to the annual East-West Shrine Game earlier this month.
Â
One of the 10 semifinalists for the 2015 Ray Guy Award, Dixon was named to the All-ACC First Team by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA) and to the All-ACC Second Team by the conference's head coaches. He averaged 43.7 yards per punt in 2015 and placed 43 percent (28-65) of his punts inside the 20-yard line with only five touchbacks. In addition, 18 of his punts traveled more than 50 yards, including a long of 64 yards against Rhode Island.
Dixon finished his Orange career tied for third with Brendan Carney on the program's all-time record list for punting average (42.6) and fifth in most punting yards (9,291) and number of punts (218). In 2013 against Clemson, Dixon set the school record with a 75-yard punt.
Â
The Reese's Senior Bowl will be held on Saturday, Jan 30 at 2:30 p.m. in Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game will be televised on the NFL Network.
