Phil Steele and Athlon All-ACC Teams include Dixon, Estime and Thompson
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior punter Riley Dixon, junior wide receiver Brisly Estime and junior defensive end Ron Thompson received more all-conference recognition from college football publications this week.
Â
On Monday, Dec. 14, Dixon was named to Athlon's All-ACC First Team, while Estime made the magazine's All-ACC Second Team as a punt returner. Both players earned All-ACC Second Team plaudits at their respective positions from Phil Steele on Thursday, Dec. 17, and Thompson was a Phil Steele All-ACC Third Team choice.
Â
One of the 10 semifinalists for the 2015 Ray Guy Award, Dixon averaged 43.7 yards per punt this year. He placed more than 43 percent (28-65) of his punts inside the 20-yard line with only five touchbacks. In addition, 18 of his punts traveled more than 50 yards, including a long of 64 yards against Rhode Island.
Â
Estime leads the ACC and ranks second in the nation with an average of 18.1 yards per punt return. The mark tied Maryland's Tony Logan (2010) for sixth on the ACC single-season record list and ranks third in Syracuse history. Estime brought back two punts for touchdowns and is the first SU player with multiple punt return TDs in the same season since Quinton Spotwood set the school record with four in 1997. The Delray Beach, Fla. product ranks seventh nationally in combined kick return yards with 937 (665 kickoff, 272 punt), and is fifth in the conference in all-purpose yards per game (113.4).
Â
Thompson is tied for the ACC lead with four forced fumbles and is tied for ninth in the conference in sacks (7.0). The Southfield, Mich. native posted 35 tackle, including 9.5 for a loss. Thompson's best outing came against No. 1 Clemson on Nov. 14. He recorded a career-high six tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups.
