SYRACUSE, N.Y. – As 2015 draws to a close, Cuse TV and Cuse.com are counting down the top 10 plays from this year's Orange football season. One play will be featured each day with the top play revealed on New Year's Eve.
Â
Play No. 8 on our countdown is Jordan Fredericks' game-winning touchdown run in overtime against Central Michigan on Sept. 19.
Â
THE SETUP:Â Central Michigan had the ball first in overtime and came away with a field goal to claim a 27-24 lead. Facing a third-and-5 on the 20-yard line, backup quarterback Zack Mahoney finds Kendall Moore for 13 yards down to the seven. The Orange handed the ball to Fredericks for three yards on first-and-goal, bringing up second-and-goal from the four.
Â
THE PLAY:Â Mahoney runs the option and pitches to Fredericks running right. He gets great blocking on the perimeter and dives for the corner of the end zone, hitting the pylon for the winning touchdown.
Â
THE AFTERMATH: Fredericks' touchdown lifted SU to a 30-27 victory, securing the team's first 3-0 start since 1991. It was Fredericks' second career rushing touchdown and capped an 11-carry, 73-yard performance for the freshman against the Chippewas. Fredericks went on to become the first true freshman since Delone Carter in 2006 to lead Syracuse in rushing, finishing the 2015 season with 607 yards on 107 carries.
