SYRACUSE, N.Y. – As we say goodbye to 2015 and get set to ring in the New Year, it's time to reveal the top play on our countdown of the 10 best plays from this year's Orange football season.
Â
Play No. 1 is Eric Dungey's leap into the end zone over Virginia safety Quin Blanding on Oct. 17.
Â
THE SETUP:Â With the game tied at 14-14, Qaadir Sheppard intercepts UVA quarterback Matt Johns at the 26-yard line to give the Orange possession with 32 seconds left in the first half.
THE PLAY:Â Dungey drops back to pass. Seeing no one open, he takes off running up the middle. Blanding steps up to meet Dungey at the 5-yard line, but the freshman hurdles him, takes a hit from another UVA defender at the one, and lands in the end zone.
Â
THE AFTERMATH: Dungey's dash to pay dirt gave the Orange a 21-14 halftime lead over the Cavaliers, however, Syracuse eventually lost 44-38 in three overtimes. The play was named one of the ACC Must See Moments of the 2015 calendar year and made Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays.
