
Cross and Butler Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Louis Cross of the men's soccer team and Brianna Butler of the women's basketball team are this week's Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week.

Cross is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in fine arts in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The junior has played in 24 games so far on the 2015 season, compiling a total of three goals and seven points. Cross lifted the Orange to victory in the third round of the NCAA Tournament with a goal that sealed a 2-1 win over Dartmouth. The defender also played a pivotal role in the ACC semifinal game, dishing out an assist in the team's 2-0 win at Clemson. The Lancashire, England native helped the Syracuse defensive backline post its fourth shutout in the last seven matches in the team's 1-0 Elite Eight victory over Boston College this past Saturday to advance to the program's first NCAA Final Four.

Butler earned her undergraduate degree in sport management and is currently pursuing a master's degree in instructional design, development, and evaluation. The senior guard has started in every game for the Orange so far on the 2015-16 season. Butler currently ranks second on the team with 100 total points, averaging 14.3 points per game. The King of Prussia, Pa. native shot up the record book after her performance against Maryland, now standing at 11th in program history in scoring. She recorded a season-high 22 points, including nine from the field against the Terrapins, marking her second 20-point game of the season and the 11th of her collegiate career.

Cross and the men's soccer team head to the College Cup in the national semifinals against ACC foe Clemson on Friday, Dec. 11 in Kansas City, Kan. The match is set for 6 p.m.

Butler and the women's basketball team look to pick up its second consecutive victory against Coppin State on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
