Senior attackman recorded seven points in Virginia win
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse attackman Kevin Rice was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, March 3.
Rice's award marks the third week in a row a Syracuse player has won or shared the conference's weekly offensive honor. Dylan Donahue was tabbed the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 16 and the ACC co-Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 23.
Rice tallied a season-high seven points on three goals and four assists to lead Syracuse past No. 5 Virginia, 15-9, in the ACC opener for both teams March 1 at the Carrier Dome. It was Rice's 13th career five-point game and his 16th game with at least three assists. In the process, Rice passed Liam Banks (86 assists) and JoJo Marasco (87 assists) on the SU all-time assists chart. He now ranks ninth in school history with 88 career helpers.
ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors went to North Carolina's Tate Jozokos. Jozokos recorded one goal, one assist and five ground balls in the Tar Heels' 12-10 win over then-No. 1 Denver on Feb. 27.
Syracuse returns to action Saturday, March 7 when it faces St. John's at the Cobb County Classic in Kennesaw, Ga.
