
Final Home Non-Conference Test Awaits ‘Cuse

Syracuse will host Niagara in a doubleheader on Wednesday
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On Wednesday afternoon Syracuse (15-22) will take on Niagara (1-25) in its final non-conference game this season at Skytop Softball Stadium. The Orange will take on the struggling Purple Eagles at 3:00 p.m., with game two starting around 5:00 p.m.
Niagara Comes To 'Cuse
The Purple Eagles have struggled this season with just one win in 26 games. Two batters hit above .300 for Niagara but collectively the team owns a .223 batting average. Desarae Maldonado leads the team with a .343 batting average, a .493 slugging percentage and a .387 on-base percentage. The other Niagara hitter to bat above .300 is Katelyn Gruarin with a .325 average. The account for all of Niagara's home runs this season as each have belted a pair over the fence.
Its pitching staff has struggled this season as well as the staff owns a 7.06 earned run average with the best of the three hurlers, Sydney Smyers, owning a 5.75 ERA. Taylor Grieger is credited with the sole win for the Purple Eagles when she allowed just one run in the seventh of a complete game against Fairfield.

'Cuse Notes
- Mary Dombrowski is coming off the best offensive weekend of her career against Pittsburgh. The senior outfielder recorded six hits in nine at-bats with two home runs and a double. Of the 20 runs Syracuse scored in the series, Dombrowski knocked in eight of them. She doubled her season total with six runs scored as well, giving her 12 on the season. She enters the game with a three-game hit streak.
- Maddi Doane has thrived at the plate of late and is currently riding a six-game hitting streak. After a hot start she fell into a brief slump, but since she's bounced back to hit .414 with a .460 on-base percentage in the last 14 games. In her hot streak she's knocked in 12 runs while scoring 11. Her power has been on display as well with five doubles, a triple and a home run in the 14-game stretch.
- Corinne Ozanne has been on a tear since the final game of a three-game series against Louisville. Her seven-game hitting streak was broken up in the first game of the Pitt series when she was walked in all five of her at-bats, tying a program single-game record. In the last nine games she has recorded 12 hits in 25 at-bats (.480) and has reached base in 21 of her last 34 plate appearances (.618). The stretch includes two home runs, two doubles, six runs and seven runs batted in.
- Alyssa Dewes is looking to build on a five-game hitting streak on Wednesday. She has seven hits in her last 13 at-bats with a double and a home run. In the five-game stretch she's scored four runs and has batted in four as well.
- Danielle Chitkowski has a five-game hitting streak as well and has recorded six hits in 13 at-bats in the stretch for a .462 batting average. Add four walks to the equation and she's earned a .588 on-base percentage to go along with her six runs batted in, three runs scored, two doubles and a home run.
- Rachel Burkhardt has hit the ball well, picking up three hits, a double and two runs batted in against Pitt over the weekend.
