Sophomore named ECAC Metro/Upstate Division I Defensive Player of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore faceoff specialist Ben Williams added another award to his impressive list of honors Tuesday, May 5. A day after being selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Colgate, Williams was tabbed the ECAC Metro/Upstate Division I Defensive Player of the Week.

Williams won 90 percent of his draws, going 18-for-20 at the X, against the Raiders Saturday to help lead Syracuse to a 9-7 win in the regular-season finale for both teams. It was the 11th time in school history an Orange faceoff specialist posted a single-game winning percentage of .900 (min. 10 attempts).

His play gave SU a huge advantage in time of possession, allowing the Orange to outshoot the Raiders, 43-26. In addition, Williams collected 11 ground balls in the contest to move into second place on the Orange single-season record list with 133.

Albany's Lyle Thompson earned ECAC Metro/Upstate Division I Offensive Player of the Week honors after being winning the America East Championship Most Outstanding Player Award. Thompson had 10 goals and five assists versus Hartford and Stony Brook to lead the Great Danes to the conference title.

Syracuse faces the winner of the play-in game between Bryant and Marist in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, May 10 at the Carrier Dome. Faceoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
