SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Mark Trumbo has been promoted to Coordinator of Student-Athlete Affairs and CHAMPS Life Skills at Syracuse University.
After two years as an academic coordinator at Syracuse, Trumbo will create, plan and schedule all life skills programming for more than 350 student-athletes at the University.
"I'm extremely excited for our student-athletes who will benefit directly from Mark's passion in the areas of student-athlete development and life skills," said Tommy Powell, Assistant Provost. "He will bring a high level of energy and excellence in all aspects of programming designed to transition our student-athletes from high school to college and then on to professional careers."
Previously, he served as the academic coordinator, monitoring academic progress and providing academic support for members of the Orange men's and women's soccer, track & field and cross country squads. While in this role, he also created innovative programs such as the Student-Athlete Career Night, to introduce Orange student-athletes to national employers, conduct mock interviews and provide resume creation seminars.
Trumbo oversaw the budget for student-athlete programming and served as a co-advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where he offered leadership development, program enhancement and character training. He was also instrumental in the 'Cuse Cares program, coordinating community service efforts where students logged thousands of hours in the Syracuse community.
In addition, Trumbo played a large role in the First-Year Program, developing a student-athlete orientation program for more than 150 incoming student-athletes and their parents.
Prior to joining the Orange, Trumbo worked at Ball State University where he held a similar position for more than four years. In his time at Ball State, he provided academic service to more than 450 student-athletes. Trumbo created the SASS Choice Award for upperclassmen male and female student-athletes who showed a high interest in pursuing academic achievement. In addition, he started the TAKE FLIGHT student-athlete development program, which focused on leadership, career and personal development.
Trumbo is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletes. He also served as a past chair for the N4A Research Committee.
Trumbo has also been employed as the head golf coach at Burris Laboratory School in Muncie, Ind. and as an intern for the Erie SeaWolves, a minor-league baseball team.
Trumbo earned a bachelor's degree in personal finance and real estate from Clarion University. He received his Master's degree in physical education sports management with a concentration in higher education from Ball State.
Trumbo lives in Baldwinsville, N.Y. with his wife, Kristy, and daughter, Avery.
