Hunt, Trudo, Arciniega and Franklin elected to lead Orange
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seniors Terrel Hunt, Rob Trudo, junior Luke Arciniega and sophomore Zaire Franklin have been voted captains for the 2015 football season, SU head coach Scott Shafer announced on Saturday, Aug. 29.
Â
The quartet was elected in a team vote. All four players are serving in the role for the first time.
Â
"These are four young men of high character," Shafer said. "They've been leaders for us on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. Now they must continue to lead by example because being voted captain by your peers is an honor that comes with great responsibility. It's a responsibility I'm confident they are ready for."
Â
Hunt is in his third year as the team's starting quarterback. He ranks 10th in team history with 2,621 passing yards and is second among active ACC players in career yards of total offense (3,413).
Â
Trudo moves from guard to center this season and is the Orange's most experienced player, having started 33 games. He was named to the 2015 Rimington Trophy Watch List (nation's best center) in July, and is a Lindy's Preseason All-ACC Third Team selection.
Â
Arciniega shifts to defensive end after spending his first two years with the Orange at linebacker. In 17 career games, Arciniega has 22 career tackles, including 3.0 for a loss and two sacks.
Â
Franklin is the Orange's starting middle linebacker. He is team's top returning tackler with 44 stops a year ago, including a career-high 10 at Pittsburgh. Franklin played in all 12 games as rookie and started the last three contests. Â
Â
Syracuse opens the 2015 season at home on Friday, Sept. 4 against Rhode Island. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. Season and individual game tickets are available online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). In addition, discounted group tickets (20 or more) for all home games can be purchased by calling 315-443-3212.
