SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Kimberly Keenan-Kirkpatrick is Syracuse University's new deputy athletics director/senior woman administrator. She comes to Syracuse from Seton Hall University, where she has worked in the athletics administration since 2006.
"Kim has a passion for college athletics and the welfare of the student-athletes," said Syracuse Director of Athletics Mark Coyle. "Her experience as a collegiate student-athlete, coach and athletics administrator, combined with her law degree, provides a strong foundation for her to serve in a role that is essential to the success of our student-athletes. We are excited to have Kim, her husband, Brian, and their daughters, Libbie and Madison, joining the Syracuse family."
At Seton Hall, Keenan-Kirkpatrick was an associate director of athletics for six years prior to her promotion to senior associate director of athletics in 2011. She directed the NCAA compliance program, was the University's deputy coordinator for Title IX, served as a sport administrator for multiple sports, chaired the BIG EAST Track & Field and Cross Country Championship committees, and initiated many Pirate Blue Athletics fundraising activities. In her role as associate athletics director for compliance, Keenan-Kirkpatrick was responsible for oversight of the education and monitoring of compliance issues for all 14 of Seton Hall's intercollegiate athletics programs. A former attorney, she is well versed of the NCAA's rules and regulations and ensures that all coaches remain conscious of the ever-changing guidelines in college athletics.
Prior to joining Seton Hall in 2006, Keenan-Kirkpatrick was the associate athletics director and senior women's administrator at Lafayette College for four years. She served in the same capacities at Kutztown University from 1996-2002. Before joining the Golden Bears, Keenan-Kirkpatrick spent a few years as an attorney, and also served as Drew University's business manager and cross country head coach.
A track and field standout at Kent State, she earned the Mid-America Conference's Bob James Memorial Post-Graduate Scholarship and placed second in the 5,000-meter run at the MAC Indoor Championships her senior year.
Keenan-Kirkpatrick's reputation as an elite track and field representative was proven later in her career as she served as an assistant coach on the U.S. Track & Field team for the 2005 World Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. In both instances, and in many others, she worked specifically with America's distance runners. Keenan-Kirkpatrick transitioned to a management role with the organization in 2011, serving as the head women's manager for the Pan Am games in Guadalajara, Mexico, and, most recently, as the track and field event manager for the U.S. men and women at the Pan Am games in Toronto.
She earned her law degree from Seton Hall in 1993 and her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Kent State University.
