SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse University football team (3-0) completes a four-game homestand with a matchup against No. 8 LSU (2-0) on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 12 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Individual game tickets are available online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). In addition, discounted group tickets (20 or more) for all home games can be purchased by calling 315-443-3212.
The contest will be broadcast on ESPN. Bob Wischusen (pbp), Brock Huard (analyst), and Shannon Spake (sideline) are on the call.
The Tigers are the Orange's first nationally-ranked foe of the 2015 season, and Syracuse is seeking its first win against a ranked opponent since a 45-26 win against No. 11 Louisville on Nov. 10, 2012.
In its most recent game, Syracuse recorded a 30-27 overtime victory against Central Michigan on Sept. 19. Freshman running back Jordan Fredericks scored the game-winning touchdown on a 4-yard run. It marked the second touchdown of Fredericks' young career.
LSU defeated No. 18 Auburn, 45-21, last weekend. Running back Leonard Fournette ran for 228 yards against the Tigers. Fournette broke the school single-game record by averaging 12.0 yards per carry in the contest.
AGAINST THE AP TOP 10
Since the inception of the AP poll in 1934, Syracuse has defeated 11 opponents who have been ranked in the top 10.
The Orange's last win against a top-10 ranked AP foe was in 2002 versus No. 8 Virginia Tech. SU scored a 50-42 victory against the Hokies in triple overtime. It marked the first triple-overtime contest in program history.
THREE GAMES, THREE WINS
For the first time since 1991, Syracuse has begun its season by winning its first three contests. The 2015 Orange became the fifth SU team in the last 50 years to start off the year with a 3-0 record. In addition, the 2015 squad became the 33rd team in the program's 126-year history to win its first three games of the year.
SU opened the year with a 47-0 victory against Rhode Island, its first shutout in a season opener since 1997. In its second contest, Syracuse defeated Wake Forest, 30- 17, behind two second=half touchdowns from freshman quarterback Eric Dungey. The Orange beat Central Michigan, 30-27, in overtime last weekend.
No player on the 2015 Orange roster was born in 1991. Head coach Scott Shafer was in his first year as a graduate assistant at Indiana that year and defensive coordinator Chuck Bullough was on his way to being named a semifinalist for the 1991 Butkus Award as a linebacker at Michigan State.
SCOUTING LSU
After having its season opener canceled against McNeese State, LSU has defeated two nationally-ranked opponents in consectutive weeks, including Auburn in its first home game of the year.
Sophomore running back Leonard Fournette leads the nation in rushing, averaging 193.5 yards per game. Fournette also ranks first nationally in scoring, averaging three touchdowns (18.0 points) per contest. Against Auburn, Fournette rushed 19 times for 228 yards on the ground. His 12.0 yards per carry average in the contest is an LSU school record and the 228 rushing yards ranks seventh in the Tigers' single-game history.
Coming into Saturday's game at the Carrier Dome, LSU ranks among one of the top rushing offenses in the country. The Tigers are averaging 338.5 yards per contest, which ranks fifth nationally.
THE LSU SERIES
Syracuse and LSU have met twice prior to Saturday's matchup in the Carrier Dome. Entering this weekend's contest, the all-time series is tied with each program winning once. Both previous meetings came at neutral sites in bowl games.
In the first meeting between Syracuse and LSU, the Tigers recorded a 13-10 victory in the 1965 Sugar Bowl. Syracuse's Floyd Little, a future College Football and Pro Football Hall of Famer, was held to 46 yards rushing on the day. LSU wide receiver Doug Moreau hauled in a touchdown pass and kicked the game-winning field goal.
The most recent pairing, was in the 1989 Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa, Fla. The Orange scored a 23-10 victory that day, marking the team's 21st victory in 24 games.
Tied 10-10 in the third quarter, running back Robert Drummond ran for his second touchdown to give SU a 17-10 lead. Quarterback Todd Philcox put the finishing touches on the victory, throwing a 4-yard touchdown to Deval Glover early in the fourth quarter.
Drummond earned Hall of Fame Bowl Most Valuable Player accolades after running for 122 yards on 23 carries. 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame nominee Daryl Johnston played his final contest in an Orange uniform that day and ran for 74 yards.

Syracuse has a bye next week. The Orange plays its first road game of the year Saturday, Oct. 10 when the team travels to take on USF at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
