Power-Play Goal Lifts Queen's Over Orange In Exhibition
9/27/2015 6:34:00 PM | Ice Hockey
SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse women's ice hockey team lost to Queen's University, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in an exhibition contest at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Â
Syracuse out-shot Queen's, 37-10 but Gaels' goalie Stephanie Pascal denied Syracuse every scoring chance. The Orange had three different goalies play in the crease, utilizing the exhibition as a time to get each goaltender some reps.
Â
"We looked like a team that had practiced six times and hadn't really spent a lot of time working on detail in terms of our systems," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "We did generate a lot of opportunities, but their goaltender played well and pitched a shutout today. I give her a lot of credit."
Â
After a penalty by Heather Schwarz at the 13:26 mark in the second frame, the Gaels took advantage of the opportunity by scoring the only goal of the game on a wrister from Katrina Manoukarakis.
Â
Senior Melissa Piacentini and junior Jessica Sibley led the offensive charge for the Orange, combining for 13 shots in the contest.Â
Â
The Orange opens its season officially on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Tennity Ice Pavilion against Clarkson at 7 p.m.Â
