
Gedney Named 2015 ACC Football Legend

Former Orange tight end played seven years in the NFL
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former unanimous All-America tight end Chris Gedney has been selected as Syracuse University's representative in the 2015 ACC Football Legends Class, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Gedney will join 13 other all-time greats as honorees at the ACC Night of Legends presented by the Belk Bowl on Friday, Dec. 4, and during the on-field, pre-game festivities at the 11th annual Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Gedney holds the Syracuse school records for most receptions by a tight end in a season (34 in 1992), most receiving yards by a tight end in a season (587 in 1992), and most career receiving yards by a tight end (1,334). He was a member of Orange teams that played in four bowl games and was named to the SU All-Century Football Team.

Gedney played for the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals during a seven-year pro career, and was a finalist for the 2000 NFL Man of the Year Award. He received the Ed Block and Gene Autry Courage awards in 2001.

The Liverpool, N.Y. native is now a senior associate athletics director at his alma mater. Gedney, who is responsible for solicitation of major gifts for athletics and coordinating and managing the donor prospect pool, also serves as the analyst for the Syracuse IMG Sports Network football broadcasts.

Gedney is the third Syracuse ACC Football Legend, joining College and Pro Football Hall of Famers Floyd Little (2013) and Art Monk (2014).
