Soccer Duo earns Scholar-Athlete of the Week Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Soccer student-athletes Juuso Pasanen and Jackie Firenze are this week's Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week.

Pasanen is a senior finance major in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The midfielder out of Kuopio, Finland was recently named to the Central New York Classic All-Tournament team after a 2-1 win over Rutgers on Sunday. Last season, he played in all 21 matches and was part of an Orange defense that recorded an ACC-best 12 shutouts.

Firenze is a senior health and physical education major out of Baldwinsville, N.Y. The local product started all 19 games last season, finishing with 18 shots, two assists, and one goal. She was also a member of the 2014 ACC All-Academic Team.

Both teams play back-to-back home games on Friday, Sept. 11 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The women's team faces in-state rival Cornell at 3:30 p.m., while the men's team looks for its fourth straight win when it opens ACC play against No. 15 Louisville at 7 p.m. Both games are free admission.
