Knight Wins Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational

Justyn Knight used a strong kick down the stretch at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour to take the individual crown, his second-straight win at a major event this season on .
Knight closed from fifth to first in the final 2,000-meters to out-kick Northern Arizona's Fustum Zienasellassie by two seconds to take the meet. He crossed the line in 23:53.1 to lead No. 2 Syracuse to a fourth place finish overall, collecting 167 points.
No. 1 Northern Arizona picked up the overall win with 78 points, followed by No. 11 Stanford (118 points) and No. 3 BYU (144 points) finishing third.
Behind Knight, Colin Bennie was next across the line for the Orange, finishing in 14th overall (24:09.9). Philo Germano finished 28th in 24:24.7, with Joel Hubbard 10 places behind him in 24:28.2. IlIass Aouani finished 86th to round out the SU scoring (24:53.5) and Adam Visokay (24:54.1) was right behind in 87th. Aidan Tooker (25:48.2) finished in 166th to close out the 'Cuse top seven.
On the women's side, Paige Stoner finished 44th (20:56.6) to lead the Orange to a 20th place finish overall. Freshman Emma Wilson finished 91st (21:19.6) and was followed closely by classmate McKenzie Altmayer who finished less than a second back in 92nd. Mary Malone also turned in a top-100 finish (21:24.2), crossing the line in 99th. Alex Cooper rounded out the Orange top-five in 21:44.8 (128th). Sydney Leiher (178th) and Madeleine Davison (205th) closed out the Syracuse top-seven.
'Cuse also had three competitors in each 'B' race. Due to the size of the Wisconsin Invitational, teams are limited to choosing seven competitors each for the championship flight.
For the men, Kevin James led the way with a fifth-place finish overall (25:02.1) where he was followed closely by Griff Molino (25:10.8), who took seventh. T.J. Hornberger also turned in a strong performance, placing 35th.
For the women, Shannon Malone led the way, crossing the finish line in 22:24.3, which was good for 46th. Stephanie Bitcon (22:45.8/78th) and Chelsie Pennello (23:16.9/98th) also raced for SU.
Next, the Orange will head to the John Reif Memorial on Friday, Oct. 21 in Ithaca, N.Y.
