SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the fourth time in the last five weeks, the Syracuse football team  (3-4, 1-2 ACC) is back on the road Saturday, Oct. 22 when it takes on longtime rival Boston College (3-3, 0-3 ACC). Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m. at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

The Orange are coming off their most complete performance of the year, a 31-17 victory against No. 17 Virginia Tech on Oct. 15. It marked the team's first win against a nationally-ranked opponent since the 2012 season. Sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey led the way, becoming the first player in program history to throw for 300 yards and run for 100 yards in the same game.

The Eagles last played on Oct. 7, losing to Clemson, 56-10. Boston College owns one of the top defenses in the nation. The Eagles rank fourth nationally in total defense, holding opponents to 253 yards per contest.

SYRACUSE-BOSTON COLLEGE CONNECTIONS
Their are numerous ties between Boston College and Syracuse with several members of the Eagles' staff once having worked for the Orange. Chief among them is BC defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni who served as the Syracuse football boss from 1991-2004. In his 14 seasons at the helm of the program, Pasqualoni guided the Orange to a 101-59-1 overall record and four conference titles.

Eagles head coach Steve Addazio was a part of Pasqualoni's Orange staff from 1995-98, coaching the offensive line. During that four-year span, Syracuse posted a 35-14 overall record and went 23-5 against BIG EAST competition.

BC assistant athletics director for football operations and player personnel Reggie Terry played for the Orange from 1989-93. Following his playing career, Terry served as a graduate assistant and administrative supervisor in the Syracuse athletic department from 1993-99. He then worked as the director of football operations and player development and associate director of athletics for football operations from 2000-06.
DUNGEY AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
Sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey currently leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally in passing yards with 2,197. He also leads the conference and ranks sixth in the country in completions per game, averaging 27.4 per contest. Dungey is also 10th in the country in total offense at 347.7 yards per game.
Dungey is the ninth different quarterback to throw for at least 2,000 yards in a single season. In addition, he is currently 138 yards shy posting the most prolific season in terms of passing yardage by a Syracuse sophomore.
Against Virginia Tech on Oct. 15, Dungey threw for 311 yards and ran for 106 yards, becoming the first player in program history to throw for at least 300 yards and run for at least 100 yards in the same game. He was recognized with ACC Offensive Back of the Week honors for the performance. He was also tabbed one of the Manning Award "Stars of the Week" and was named to the Davey O'Brien "Great 8" quarterbacks list for Week 7.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
Boston College boasts the fourth-ranked defense in the country, allowing 253 yards per game. It's pass defense is tops in the ACC at 149.7 yards allowed per contest. Junior defensive end Harold Landry has been a disruptive force. He has 6.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. Linebacker Ty Schwab leads the team with 33 tackles. Matt Milano and John Johnson are right behind Schwab with 32 stops each.
Offensively, graduate quarterback Patrick Towles has thrown for 897 yards and seven touchdowns. Towles joined the Eagles after starting for two years at Kentucky. His favorite targets are sophomores Jeff Smith and Michael Walker. The duo has 28 combined receptions and five of BC's seven touchdown receptions. Smith, a converted quarterback, leads the way with 15 catches for 259 yards and three scores. Running back Jon Hilliman has amassed 337 yards on the ground with five rushing touchdowns.Â

Syracuse and Boston College are playing for the 50th time Saturday. The Orange own a 29-19 edge in the all-time series, with one of Syracuse's victories being vacated by the NCAA in 2015. The series has been evenly contested of late with the two teams splitting the last 10 pairings.

Since joining the ACC in 2013, Syracuse owns a 2-1 overall record against BC. In its first season as a league member, Syracuse won 34-31 on Nov. 30, 2013 in the regular-season finale to clinch bowl eligibility. Tight end Josh Parris hauled in an 8-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Terrel Hunt with six seconds remaining to secure the win.

Syracuse and Boston College's last meeting as members of the BIG EAST Conference was a memorable one. Syracuse defeated BC 43-17 on Nov. 27, 2004. Diamond Ferri stole the show, rushing for 141 yards and two touchdowns and returning an interception for a score on defense. Ferri was named the BIG EAST Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts, becoming the first player in conference history to take home both honors in the same week. The win was vacated by the NCAA more than a decade later.
