Orange Topple #13 Boston University in Final Road Contest

The No. 3 Syracuse field hockey team (13-2, 4-2 ACC) used goals from Jennifer Bleakney and Lies Lagerweij in the first half of Sunday's game at No. 13 Boston University (10-5) to down the Terriers 2-1 in the final road game of the 2016 regular season.
The Orange got its goals in the first half just a few minutes apart to take a two-goal lead into the locker room. 'Cuse continued the pressure into the second half, but it was BU which broke the scoring draught with four minutes remaining to end the shutout.
Â
In the 23rd minute, Syracuse mounted an attack that put three shots on cage, the first two – attempts by Emma Tufts and Elaine Carey – were turned away, but Bleakney controlled the loose rebound and finished past Cammy Jensen for the game's first tally.
Â
Just under four minutes later, Lagerweij created her own opportunity. After strong stick work carried the ball into the circle and created space, she fired a hard, low backhand shot past Jensen to put SU up 2-0.
Syracuse put 11 shots on cage to the Terriers' five.
However it was the fifth shot on cage that ruined the Orange's clean sheet. Amanda Cassera flipped a shot high over Regan Spencer after she turned away an initial Boston chance. The ball sailed from the baseline over the reached up arms of Spencer and into the back of the net.
Syracuse will next host Indiana on Sunday, Oct. 30 for senior day. That game will get underway at 1 p.m. and be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
