
Hofrichter Named Ray Guy Award Candidate

Orange redshirt freshman up for nation's top punting prize
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Syracuse redshirt freshman Sterling Hofrichter is one of the 66 candidates for the 2016 Ray Guy Award, as announced by the Augusta Sports Council on Monday, Oct. 31. The Ray Guy Award annually recognizes the nation's top collegiate punter.

The official list of candidates includes six punters from the Atlantic Coast Conference. In addition to Hofrichter, Paul Justin Vogel (Miami), Alfred James Cole III (NC State), Tom Sheldon (North Carolina), Ryan Henry Winslow (Pittsburgh) and Nicholas Conte (Virginia) are also up for the award. Candidates were nominated by their school's sports information department.

Hofrichter has punted 49 times for 2,063 yards, an average of 42.1 yards per punt. He currently ranks second in the ACC in punting yardage. Hofrichter's placed 13 of his kicks inside the 20-yard line with only two touchbacks, and has 13 punts of 50 yards or more.

The list will be candidates will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists on Nov. 11. Following the announcement of the semifinalists, a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists to be announced on Nov. 22. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner.
The presentation of this year's Ray Guy Award will be featured live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 8.
