Syracuse visits No. 3 Clemson Saturday
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the fifth time in the past six games, the Syracuse football team will hit the road when it takes on No. 3 Clemson Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, S.C.
Â
In their last game, Syracuse defeated Boston College 28-20 on Oct. 22. Sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey became the second Syracuse signal-caller to eclipse the 400-yard passing mark twice in his collegiate career, throwing for a career-high 434 yards on his way to ACC Offensive Back of the Week honors for the second week in a row. In addition, redshirt senior wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo became the first Power Five player in 2016 to eclipse the 1,000-yard receiving plateau. The victory snapped SU's eight-game ACC road losing streak and got the team back to .500.
"To be 4-4 at Syracuse University, where the games you remember are the ones in November," head coach Dino Babers said in his weekly news conference on Monday morning. "We are going into November where the games matter. There is something riding on it."
Â
The Orange face one of their toughest challenges on the road against the Tigers, the 2015 national runners-up. Clemson is currently riding a 22-game regular-season winning streak and has won 20 straight in Death Valley, the longest current home winning streak in the nation.
"They are extremely talented on both sides of the football," Babers said. "They are well-coached. They are athletic. There are a lot of guys that are going to be millionaires, playing on both sides of the football field. It's going to be a huge challenge."
Syracuse is looking to defeat a nationally-ranked opponent for the second time this year. The Orange topped No. 17 Virginia Tech on Oct. 15 and a win against the Tigers would mark the first time Syracuse beat multiple nationally-ranked in the same year since 2002.
"Speaking to the men on Sunday, I think they are ready for the challenge," Babers said. "Now, we have to go out and prove some people wrong."
After the Clemson game, the Orange return to the Carrier Dome to host North Carolina State on Saturday, Nov. 12. Tickets for the NC State game, as well as SU's final home game against Florida State on Nov. 19, are available online, by phone (888-DOMETIX), at Destiny USA kiosks and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B).
