‘Cuse falls in three to Fighting Irish

Weaver tallies second career double-double
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange volleyball team fell in three sets (16-25, 24-26, 10-25) to Notre Dame on Friday night at the Women's Building. Syracuse is now 2-3 in ACC play and 3-12 overall.
Freshman Mackenzie Weaver tallied her second career double-double, as the outside hitter had 11 kills and 15 digs on the night. Weaver also tallied a pair of solo stops at the net.
From the back court, junior Belle Sand recorded her second-best dig count of the season with 19.
Syracuse controlled the play on the block, as the Orange led the Fighting Irish (14-3, 5-0 ACC) 7.0-4.0 in team blocking efforts.
Individually, the pair of sophomore Santita Ebangwese and junior Leah Levert registered three block assists apiece, while redshirt sophomore Christina Oyawale had two.
Notre Dame jumped out to a quick 11-6 lead in the first set, forcing Syracuse to call the first timeout.
The Orange maintained after the break, as a nearly even 7-6 Irish run led 'Cuse to its second timeout of the set.
The Irish capitalized on a substantial 7-4 stretch to close out the first set, 25-16.
Proving to be much more competitive than the first, the Orange took a 2-0 lead to start the second.
Notre Dame fought back and reclaimed the lead, 3-2, but the Orange were left unsatisfied as they tied the game at three.
The pair tied the game nine times before Syracuse was able to jump out to a three-point lead, its largest of the second set (22-19 SU).
The Irish pulled off a 7-2 run to halt the Orange breakthrough and close out the second set, 26-24.
Notre Dame led the third set off with an 8-2 run to force the early Syracuse timeout.
Out of the break, the Irish finished off the game with a 17-8 run to win the match, 3-0.
The Orange return to the Women's Building on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match with Louisville (6-9, 1-4 ACC). The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports Network and shown on ACC Network Extra. Live stats will also be available.
