
Emerich, Skilton Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seniors Jason Emerich of the Syracuse football team and Stephanie Skilton of the women's soccer team are this week's Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week.
Emerich and the football team host No. 17 Florida State for the home finale on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Carrier Dome. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live nationally on ABC and ESPN2. Prior to the game, 22 members of the program, including 19 players will be recognized as part of Senior Day.

Emerich earned his undergraduate degree in sport management from the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in instructional design, development and evaluation in the School of Education.

A native of New Ringgold, Pa., Emerich is the president of the Syracuse University chapter of Uplifting Athletes, a non-profit organization that inspires the rare disease community with hope through the power of sport. Â A 2015 ACC Honor Roll selection and five-time Syracuse Athletic Director's Honor Roll member, Emerich was also a 2016 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee.

Emerich competed in a pair of games for the Orange this season before he suffering a season-ending injury. In 2015, Emerich played 12 games at center, starting the last 10.

Skilton is a health and exercise science major in the School of Education. Â The senior is a five-time member of the Syracuse Athletic Director's Honor Roll and an active representative of the Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Skilton is also involved with the Exercise Science Club and interned at the Velca Health Clinic in New Zealand. Skilton took the Polar Plunge in 2015 to raise more than $1,000 for charity.

Skilton played in 19 games this season, starting the last 17. She scored six goals and tallied one assist. Skilton was the 2014 'Cuse Awards Female Rookie of the Year.

Skilton competed on the international level with the New Zealand National Team in the U-17 and U-20 World Cups, and trained with the team on tour in Cyprus, Brazil, the United States and New Zealand.
