Orange Win In-State Showdown

#14 Syracuse defeats Stony Brook, 78-60
STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The No. 14 Syracuse women's basketball team recorded a 78-60 victory at Stony Brook on Friday night. With the win, Syracuse has won its last 15 contests against in-state competition.
"We have to be aggressive and continue to play hard," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "It's tough on the road. We are on the road playing good teams. We didn't schedule light on the road. Stony Brook is a good team."
Coming into Friday night's contest, Syracuse (3-0) led the nation in turnovers forced, averaging 38.0 turnovers forced per contest. The Orange forced Stony Brook (0-3) into 34 turnovers, which resulted in 36 points for Syracuse.
Redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes led the team in scoring for the first time this season, tallying 19 points. Sykes now ranks 12th in program history with 1,262 points scored in her collegiate career. The Newark, N.J. native also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds on the night.
Senior guard Alexis Peterson scored at least 10 points for the 23rd-straight game, notching 16 points against the Seawolves. Peterson also dished out a team-high eight assists.
Senior forward Isabella Slim scored in double-figures for the second time in as many games. Slim finished with 12 points and five boards in the road victory.
The Orange return to the court on Monday night when it takes on Drexel on the road. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Philadelphia.
