SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse (4-7, 2-5 ACC) football team concludes the 2016 regular season against longtime rival Pittsburgh (7-4, 4-3 ACC) on Saturday, Nov. 26. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
Saturday's game will be the 71st meeting between the traditional Eastern football rivals.Â
The Orange are coming off a 45-14 loss to No. 17 Florida State on Nov. 19. Redshirt senior Amba Etta-Tawo caught a 46-yard touchdown to raise his season total to nine TDs. Etta-Tawo is tied with Clemson's Deon Cain for the most touchdown receptions in the ACC this season. Cornerback Christopher Fredrick also turned in a good showing against the Seminoles. He totaled a career-high six tackles and played a role in three of the SU defense's four takeaways. Fredrick forced two fumbles (one of which he recovered himself) and made his first career interception.Â
Syracuse's opponent, Pittsburgh, has won two straight games, including a 43-42 upset win against then-No. 2 Clemson. The Panthers are led by running back James Conner who is the new owner of the ACC records for career rushing touchdowns (50) and total touchdowns (53).Â
"When you talk about Pitt, you have to talk about their offensive line and what they've been able to do with their tailback James Conner and the quarterback (Nathan Peterman)," Babers said. "Having the ability to run the football in the ACC is a big thing."Â
Babers also stressed the importance of putting together a complete performance for the 2016 Orange seniors.Â
"We want to make sure, if we don't get another opportunity, that the last game these seniors are going to play is on a winning note," Babers said. "When you look at our 12-game schedule, we've only been favored to win one game. For us to have three wins out of that situation with one game left to play, I think is a testament to the seniors and the staff. We're trending up. This is something we're going to get done here. We're going to change and this is going to be a winning football program once again."Â
