
Stoner, Whitner Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – This week's Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week are Paige Stoner of the women's cross country team and Kielan Whitner of the Syracuse football team.
Following a fifth-place finish at the Atlantic Coast Conference championship, the women's cross country team preps for the NCAA Northeast Regional at Van Cortlandt park in the Bronx on Friday. Â

Stoner is an inclusive education major in the School of Education. A transfer from Lipscomb, the junior was named to the Syracuse Athletic Director's Honor Roll last spring.

A native of Pottsville, Pa., Stoner led the Orange with a 17th-place finish at the conference championship to garner All-ACC accolades.

Stoner was 12th at the Panorama Farms Invitational, 16th at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational and third at the Harry Lang Invitational earlier this season. Â Â
Whitner and the Orange football team return home for back-to-back games in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse hosts NC State at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday for Military Appreciation Day, and then welcomes Florida State to Central New York on Saturday, Nov. 19. Whitner is an accounting major in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The sophomore is an active representative of the Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and a two-time Syracuse Athletic Director's Honor Roll member.

A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Whitner has seen action in seven games in the secondary this season. He has 29 tackles, including 15 solo stops.
