SYRACUSE, N.Y. – As 2016 draws to a close, Cuse.com is counting down the top 10 plays from this year's Orange football season. One play will be featured each day with the top play revealed on New Year's Eve.

Play No. 9Â on our countdown is junior Ervin Philips' diving touchdown reception on Sept. 17 against USF.

THE SETUP:Â The Orange took the game's opening kickoff and used 15 plays (10 run, 5 pass) to move 55 yards down to the USF 24-yard line.

THE PLAY: On third-and-15, quarterback Eric Dungey takes the snap and looks to his left. He comes back to the middle and fires to Philips who stretches out and makes the catch in the end zone.Â

THE AFTERMATH: The touchdown reception was Philips' second of the season. It gave the Orange a 7-0 lead less than five minutes into a game Syracuse would eventually lead 17-0. Philips finished with 10 catches for 95 yards against the Bulls. He went on to set the school record for most receptions by a junior with 90 catches in 2016 and was an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection.
