SYRACUSE, N.Y. – As 2016 draws to a close, Cuse.com is counting down the best 10 plays from this year's Orange football season. One play will be featured each day with the top play revealed on New Year's Eve.
Â
Play No. 4 on our countdown is the second highlight from the Orange's victory on Oct. 22 at Boston College. It's Steve Ishmael's 11-yard touchdown reception from Eric Dungey with 15 seconds left in the third quarter.
Â
THE SETUP: Syracuse had maintained its 14-10 halftime advantage deep into the third period, and Dungey was methodically marching the Orange down the field looking to lengthen the lead. On a possession that began at his own 14, Dungey had hit on 6-of-8 throws during the drive up to that point to put Syracuse at the Boston College 11-yard line.    Â
Â
THE PLAY: Facing third-and-goal after a false start penalty, Dungey takes the snap and throws a fade into the end zone for Ishmael. The junior from Miami, Fla. turns and high-points the football over BC defensive back John Johnson. Ishmael also keeps his left foot in-bounds as he's falling backward to complete the catch.
Â
THE AFTERMATH: The touchdown and subsequent extra point gave the Orange a 21-10 lead in a game Syracuse would eventually win 28-20. Ishmael finished the contest with a season-high 108 yards on a career-best eight receptions, and his touchdown grab was a nominee for SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays that night.
