SYRACUSE – The 'Hoops for the Stars' program will be highlighted on February 11 with an on-court presentation at the Carrier Dome to honor more than 150 area youth at the Syracuse University men's basketball game against Florida State and a similar event on February 27 against NC State.
For the eighth year in a row, Syracuse University and National Grid Foundation continue to partner to provide positive reinforcement, recognition of improved academic performance and attendance in school, a decrease in negative behavior, and positive contributions to the community. The program underscores a shared commitment by Syracuse University Athletics, National Grid Foundation and the Syracuse City School District to work together in enriching the educational and life experience of area youth.
Through a National Grid Foundation commitment of $35,000 this year, Syracuse University Athletics is providing tickets to 12 men's basketball home games. Ticket recipients include more than 2,300 student achievers from eight middle schools in the Syracuse City School District and a parent or guardian to select Orange Men Basketball games.
"Through this partnership with Syracuse University, the HFTS program promotes academic achievement and encourages students to reach their highest potential," said Melanie Littlejohn, Board Member, National Grid Foundation. "And together, we witness the profound impact it has on the lives of thousands of deserving Syracuse City School District students."
