Syracuse cross country and track alum Maegan Krifchin took seventh at the U.S. Olympic Marathon trials to lead the way for the Orange alums competing.
Falling just outside of the top-three, which earn automatic bids to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero, Krifchin posted a time of 2:33:34, just over four minutes outside of a qualifying time.
In addition to Krifchin, 2015 Orange alum Jessie Petersen competed on the women's side as well, finishing in 3:06:00, for a 132nd-place finish. Griff Graves also competed on the day in the men's race.
Krifchin, a 2010 Syracuse graduate, won the Philadelphia Half Marathon this fall. A four-year member of the Orange Track and Field team, Krifchin broke the school record in the 1,500-meter run during her senior year, finishing in 4:22.65 for a sixth-place finish at the UNC Joe Hilton Invite. Krifchin also ran as a part of the distance medley relay team at the BIG EAST Championship during the outdoor season of her senior year.
Since graduating from Syracuse, Krifchin has found success on both the national and international levels, placing second in the 2012 U.S. Half-Marathon Championships and 13th overall and first among Americans the World Half-Marathon Championships later that year.
Petersen, a Soladay Award nominee last year at Syracuse as a senior, took bronze in the 5k at last year's ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Regional, where she took 22nd in the event.
Petersen was also a reliable force in cross country for the Orange, taking 26th at the NCAA Northeast Regional in 2014.
Graves was a two-time USTFCCCA All-Northeast Region honoree and a member of the All-BIG EAST team in 2012 in cross country. He also finished eighth in the 5k at the 2013 BIG EAST Track and Field Championships. He was also a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honoree.
