The Syracuse Syracuse distance runners opened up their outdoor seasons at the Raleigh Relays this weekend, competing across five events on the two-night meet.
On night one, Julian Franjieh led the way in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 8:48.03, which earned him 18th place. Omar Alsaidi (9:25.21) followed.
Charles Guerrera (14:08.13) was the top 'Cuse finisher in the 5k, crossing the line in 14:08.13. Tristan Thurneyesen (14:47.02) and Asher Danielson (15:02.21) also competed.
In the 10k, Ruben Rojas Betanzos (30:11.34) and Conell Alford (30:31.19) raced for the Orange.
The women took to the track on the second night of the event. Carmen Luisi crossed the line in 16:45.98 in the women's 5k, followed by Gretta Johnson (17:01.89) and Beatriz Fernandes (17:21.83, whose time was a new personal best.
Mackenzie Cook raced to a time of 11:35.94 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Syracuse returns to action next weekend at the Stanford Invitational and Cortland Red Dragon Open.Â
