'Cuse up two spots in each poll
2/22/2016 2:15:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
Following a 2-0 start to the 2016 season, the Syracuse men's lacrosse team moved up in both polls this week, jumping to No. 4 in the USILA/NIKE Coaches Poll, and No. 3 in the Cascade/Maverik Media Poll.
The Orange, who'll host Army West Point on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the final game of its three-game homestand to open the season, received 366 points in the USILA poll, just three points behind No. 3 Duke. Denver, which entered the weekend ranked second, leapfrogged Notre Dame for the top spot, taking 429 points and 11 first place votes to the Fighting Irish's 427 points and 11 first place votes. Maryland fell to fifth, just one point behind Syracuse, to round out the top-five.
'Cuse's schedule is once again well represented in the poll. Syracuse will take on No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Duke, No. 8 Johns Hopkins, No. 10 North Carolina, No. 11 Virginia and already defeated No. 18 Albany.
In the media poll, Notre Dame stayed atop the standings, taking 590 of a possible 600 points. The Irish also garnered 21 first-place votes. Denver sits in second (577, eight first place votes), with Syracuse right behind with 510 points and a first place vote.
Maryland, and Duke follow the Orange in fourth and fifth respectively.
Syracuse and Army West Point will square off for the 63rd time on Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets are available by visiting Cuse.com/tickets, visiting the Carrier Dome Box Office or by calling 1-888-DOMETIX. The game will also be part of a double header with the No. 3 Syracuse women, who'll host No. 4 Northwestern at Noon.
