SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse softball team continues its road trip down South, taking on Savannah State and Charleston Southern in mid-week non-conference matchups.

The Orange (9-11, 1-2 ACC) head down to Savannah, Ga. for a doubleheader against the Tigers on Tuesday, Mar. 15. The first pitch set for 2 p.m. On Wednesday, Syracuse heads up the road to Charleston, S.C., facing the Buccaneers in a single-game contest at 3 p.m.

PREVIEWING SAVANNAH STATE
The Tigers post a 10-13 record on the 2016 season, currently on a four-game winning streak after a shutout win against Grambling State, a victory over Mississippi Valley State, and doubleheader wins over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Savannah State is led by senior Torrian Wright, who boasts a .484 batting average (15-31), the second-best in the MEAC. Of those hits, four are doubles, two are home runs, and adds 10 RBI with a .691 on base percentage.

Freshman Cortni Jones and recent MEAC Rookie of the Week adds a team-best five home runs and 22 RBI while batting .364. Her 22 RBI are the best in the MEAC. As a team, the Tigers are hitting a current MEAC-best .312 (186-597).

The Buccaneers hold an 11-13 record on the season, most recently coming off of wins against Chattanooga and Columbia.

Freshman Jade Gandara leads Charleston Southern with a .370 (20-54) batting average, collecting three home runs, two doubles, one triple, and 11 RBI off of those hits. Stephanie Bergmann adds a team-best 13 RBI, garnering one home run and one double off of 19 hits.

As a team, the Buccaneers are batting .271 with 160 hits off of 591 attempts.

WEEKEND RECAP
The Orange kicked off ACC play this past weekend in a three-game series at North Carolina, picking up an 8-2 win against the Tar Heels before falling 3-1 and 2-1 in the next two. Sophomore Maddi Doane posted a .500 batting average at the plate over the weekend, registering five hits off of 10 at bats while racking up a double and an RBI.

Senior Corinne Ozanne recorded her fourth home run of the season and her 40th career home run in the final game against the Tar Heels on Sunday. Her 40 home runs puts her at just six home runs shy of the Syracuse career home run record, currently held by Jasmine Watson.

Junior Sydney O'Hara and senior Danielle Chitkowski recorded their first home runs of the season over the weekend as well. O'Hara's three-run home run came in the top of the eighth inning in the first game against the Tar Heels while tied at two apiece, fueling the Orange to an 8-2 victory. O'Hara also finished the weekend on the mound with a 1.11 ERA while striking out six batters and allowing four hits.

- The Syracuse pitching brigade posts a fourth-best 2.29 earned run average in the ACC, with junior Sydney O'Hara leading the pack sitting atop of the conference standings with a 1.31 ERA. The 2.29 team ERA is also good for 30th in the nation.
- O'Hara also leads the ACC in hits and runs allowed, letting her opponents only 18 hits and six runs.
- The squad has allowed opponents just 120 hits so far on the season, posting the second-best mark in the ACC right behind No. 11 Florida State.
- The Orange currently stand third in the ACC with a .968 fielding percentage and a 0.45 average on double plays per game.
