Former SU defensive end had 12.5 sacks for the Patriots in 2015
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Former Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones has a new home in the NFL.
Â
The New England Patriots traded the 2016 Pro Bowler to the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday for offensive lineman Jonathan Cooper and a second-round pick in this year's NFL Draft. The deal is contingent on both players passing physicals.
Â
Jones racked up 12.5 sacks for the Patriots in 2015 and totaled 36 sacks in four seasons in New England. He helped the Patriots reach four straight AFC title games during that time and to a victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.
Â
A native of Endicott, N.Y., Jones starred for the Orange from 2009-11. He recorded 147 tackles, including 27 for a loss, and was a two-time All-BIG EAST selection. Jones was selected in the first round (21st overall) by the Patriots in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Â
In Arizona, Jones could possibly team up with another former Syracuse sackmaster – Dwight Freeney. Freeney played 11 games for the Cardinals in 2015 and had eight sacks. He is currently an unsigned free agent. Â
