PREVIEWING THE GAME
- The third-ranked Orange travels to take on Virginia on Friday, Mar. 4 at Klockner Stadium. The teams have played 31 games against each other dating back to 1938.
- The game will be broadcast on ESPNU, with SU alums Anish Shroff (pxp) and Paul Carcaterra (color) on the call. TK99 will also be the radio home for the Orange on Sunday, with Varun Raghupathi (pxp) and Kyle Fetterly (color). WAER also will broadcast the game, with Michael Tricarico (pxp) and Marco Socci (color) as the broadcast team.
- Syracuse enters the game 3-0 after defeating Army West Point 9-8 last weekend. Virginia comes into the tilt with a record of 2-2, having won its most recent game 15-10 over Penn.
THE VIRGINIA SERIES
- Virginia leads the all-time series with SU 16-15. On Apr. 14, 1938, the Orange won the first game of the series, 13-4.
- SU has won three of the last five matchups with Virginia. In the last matchup between the two teams, on March 1, 2015, the Orange defeated the Cavaliers 15-9.
- Under Head Coach John Desko (since 1999), the Orange are 10-11 against the Cavaliers. A win would make Desko .500 or better against any opponent he's faced four-or-more times, and .500 or better against 34-of-35 of Syracuse's opponents in his tenure, with a 1-2 record against Maryland as the only exception.
ACC OPENER
- Syracuse owns a 4-5 record in ACC play over the last-two seasons and won the ACC Championship in 2015.
- The Orange are 4-1 in conference openers since first joining a league in 2010 (BIG EAST) and moving to the ACC in 2014.
MULLINS REACHES 50 CTs
- With his three caused turnovers in Sunday's win over Army West Point, redshirt-senior Brandon Mullins became the fourth defender in Orange history to reach the 50-caused turnover plateau in his career.
- Only Brian Megill (103), Matt Harris (68) and Joel White (61) have more than Mullins' 51 in their Syracuse careers.
- Caused turnovers have only been an official stat since 2010.
WILLIAMS POWERS ORANGE AT THE X
- Ben Williams enters Friday's contest ranked fourth nationally in faceoff win percentage (.712). He has taken at least 16 faceoffs in each of the Orange's first three games, and is 42-59 on the season.
- Williams' highest single-game mark of this season came against Siena in the season opener when he won 12 of his 16 draws (.750).
- For his career, Williams ranks first in ground balls per game (7.88), second in ground balls (268), fifth in faceoff win percentage (.613), second in faceoffs won (484) and second in faceoffs attempted
Faceoff is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday.
