
'Cuse Hosts Wake Forest And Florida State

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 40 ranked Syracuse women's tennis team will face off against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents this weekend when they take on No. 19 Wake Forest on Friday and No. 57 Florida State on Sunday. The Orange and Demon Deacons matchup will take place at 3 p.m., and the Orange and Seminoles will face off at 11 a.m. Both matches will be at Drumlins Country Club.
Syracuse (8-6, 2-6 ACC) is coming off a tough loss to ACC opponent No. 3 North Carolina. Freshmen Dina Hegab and Gabriela Knutson both enter the matchup against Wake Forest with overall singles records of 9-4.
Sophomore Nicole Mitchell and graduate student Anna Shkudun will both compete to improve upon their current singles records. Mitchell is 2-1 overall while Shkudun posts a record of 8-6 overall. Doubles pair of Gabriela Knutson and junior Valeria Salazar will also look to gain momentum. They are 6-3 overall and 5-2 in ACC matches.
SCOUTING WAKE FOREST
The No. 19 ranked Demon Deacons are 16-5 overall with an ACC record of 5-4. They are led in singles matches by junior Luisa Fernandez and freshman Joanna Zalewski. Fernandez has an overall singles record of 15-4, while Zalewski posts a record of 16-4. In doubles, Fernandez and partner senior Andrea Retolaza lead the way with a total record of 12-6.
SCOUTING FLORIDA STATE
The No. 57 ranked Seminoles are 9-9 overall with 1-7 ACC record. Sophomore Gabriella Castaneda leads the team with a singles record of 11-5 overall, while sophomore Daneika Borthwick is 8-6. Doubles pair of Borthwick and senior Yukako Noi are 6-5 overall this season in their doubles matches, yet post a record in ACC doubles play of 0-5.
