Junior linebacker led the Orange in tackles last season
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Preseason praise for members of the Syracuse football team continues to be offered by national college football preview magazines, as junior linebacker Zaire Franklin has been named to Lindy's Preseason All-ACC Third Team.
The preseason all-conference teams were included in Lindy's 2016 college football preview issue, which is available in stores and at newsstands now.
Â
Franklin is the third Orange standout so far to earn preseason all-league honors. Senior wide receiver/return specialist Brisly Estime and junior placekicker Cole Murphy garnered preseason second- and third-team recognition, respectively, from Athlon.
Â
A starter at middle linebacker in all 12 games for the Orange last season, Franklin paced the squad with 81 tackles. He ranked second on the team with 11 tackles for loss and was SU's leading tackler in four games. In addition, Franklin recorded three sacks, forced two fumbles, and intercepted a pass last season. His best game was against Pittsburgh. Franklin set career highs for tackles (11), tackles for loss (3.0), sacks (2.0), and forced a fumble against the Panthers. Â
Â
Syracuse kicks off the 2016 campaign against Colgate on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. First-year head coach Dino Babers inherits an Orange squad that returns 19 starters, including the leaders in nearly every statistical category from last season.
Â
