Colin Bennie earned Second Team All-America honors in the 10,000-meters and Freddie Crittenden III and Adam Palamar each automatically advanced to the finals in their respective events to highlight day one of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Bennie and Philo Germano competed in the first final on the track for the Orange on the week in the 10k, with Bennie racing to a 10th-place finish to earn second team All-America honors – the fourth-straight All-America finish for the sophomore dating back to last year's outdoor campaign.
Bennie stuck with the lead pack for the majority of the race, before a group broke off with five laps remaining. Bennie finished the race in 29:26.54. Oregon's Edward Cheserek won his 14th NCAA title by taking the event. Germano did not finish the race.
The meet got underway in the 1500-meters for the Orange, with Palamar racing to a time of 3:40.97 to finish fourth in his heat, earning an automatic qualifying spot to Friday's final. His time was also the fourth-fastest semifinal time overall across both heats. He's one-of-12 competitors vying for an NCAA title in the event.
Another finals qualifier was Crittenden, who posted the second-fastest time in his heat (and fourth-fastest overall) to earn one of the eight spots in Friday's final of the 110-meter hurdles. Crittenden crossed the line in 13.64 seconds and will be a First Team All-American based on his performance tonight. He was the runner-up in the indoor season as well.
Two more members of the Orange will get their races underway on Thursday, with Shaylyn Tuite and Margo Malone set to compete in the women's 10,000-meters at 10:08 p.m. eastern.
