8/16/2016 8:28:00 AM | Men's Lacrosse
Syracuse Orange standout goalkeeper John Galloway was named as the 2016 Brine Goalie of the Year in Major League Lacrosse after leading the Rochester Rattlers to an 8-5 record and a posting a league-best goals against average of 11.77.
Galloway, who also won the award in 2014, was also a two-time goaltender of the year at 'Cuse, winning the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award in both 2010 and 2011 after leading the Orange to back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2008 and 2009. He concluded his career as the NCAA all-time leader in wins (59) and minutes played by a goalie (3,776). He posed a career record of 59-8 and still ranks eighth in NCAA history in career goals against average (7.33), including a 7.20 goals against average in NCAA Tournament play, which is a 'Cuse record.
The only starting goalie in NCAA history to win national championships as a freshman and sophomore, he's a two-time First Team All-American, the only Syracuse net minder to accomplish that feat.
He was also tabbed to serve as Jacksonville's new head coach this summer, taking over the program after spending four seasons on the Providence
men's lacrosse staff.
