Super Bowl-winning coach played Little League baseball in Waterloo, N.Y.
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Former Syracuse University running back Tom Coughlin was inducted into the Little League Hall of Excellence on Saturday, Aug. 27. Little League International bestowed Coughlin with its highest honor in an on-field ceremony prior to the 2016 Little League World Series U.S. Championship Game between Maine-Endwell (N.Y.) and Goodlettsville (Tenn.). Induction is bestowed upon Little League graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in their chosen profession and exemplify the values learned as children through Little League baseball or softball.
Â
"For me, Little League baseball was the first," Coughlin said. "Everything that happened to be me at that time was the first. It was the first time I played in an organized sport. It was the first time I had been managed by a coach. It was the first time I put a uniform on."

In addition to the Hall of Excellence induction, Coughlin threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the U.S. championship contest. Maine-Endwell went on to win 4-2, then defeated Seoul, South Korea for the Little League World Series title Sunday afternoon.
Â
Coughlin was a three-year letterwinner with the Orange from 1965-67 and was a part of a legendary Syracuse backfield that included College and Pro Football Hall of Famers Larry Csonka and Floyd Little. In addition, Coughlin won two Super Bowl titles as the head coach of the New York Giants.
