CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Syracuse women's soccer team fell to Miami (7-4, 2-1) on the road behind two second half goals from the Hurricanes. The Orange drop to 7-3-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the loss.
The first half was a defensive battle on both sides with only five shots total between the two teams. Goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan finished the game with five saves. Brosnan is now two shy of 200 career saves in her three seasons at Syracuse, placing her fifth all-time in program history.
Miami's first goal came on a free kick in the 72nd minute. The kick sailed into a group of players and a Hurricane player put a head on it and sent it in Ronnie Johnson's direction. Johnson finished it off to put Miami on the board. The Hurricanes' second goal came on a counterattack.
Miami has now won two straight ACC games after defeating No. 2 Virginia on Thursday.
Syracuse will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 2 at No. 7 Duke (6-2-2, 1-0-1) for its third straight ACC road game. The Orange will face three straight ranked opponents starting with Duke followed by No. 19 Virginia Tech (Oct. 6) and No. 3 Florida State (Oct. 9).
