SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After an exciting win on Sunday at Cornell, the Syracuse women's soccer team will take to the road for two away matches this week at Rhode Island on Thursday at 7 p.m. and at Fairfield on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Â
The Orange (4-1-1) are coming off a 2-1 overtime win on a Steph Skilton golden goal in the 95th minute at Cornell on Sunday. The win snapped the Big Red's non-conference 13-game unbeaten streak that dated back to Oct. 13, 2014.
Â
Six different Syracuse players have scored this season and Steph Skilton, Eva Gordon and Alana O'Neill lead the team with two goals each. Freshmen Taylor Bennett and Sydney Brackett have made an impact in the first six games, leading the team in assists with two each.
Â
This is the first full-weekend road trip of the season for the Orange after away matches at Colgate and Cornell earlier in the season.
Â
Rhode Island won its first match of the season at Vermont on Sunday in a 2-1 overtime win and improved to 1-2-2 on the season. Nicole Brennan leads the team with two goals in 2016 and two other Rams have found the back of the net. Katie Nickles is the starting goalkeeper for the Rams and she has a 1.27 goals against average. She has had at least three saves in every game this season.
Â
Fairfield is 1-5-0 on the season with a win against Sacred Heart. The Stags are led in scoring by Brenna Brown with three goals. Goalkeeper Jenna Pike has started all six games for Fairfield and is allowing 2.67 goals per game.
