Battle leads Syracuse in revenge match
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Tyus Battle led the Orange with a career-high 21 points in a revenge match with the Eagles, and Syracuse (11-7, 3-2 ACC) defeated Boston College (9-9, 2-3 ACC), 76-53, on Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.
Leading Syracuse in scoring for just the second time in his career, Battle also tallied a team-leading three steals.Tyler Lydon joined Battle in double digits with 16 points on the night, while sharing the team lead in rebounding with Tyler Roberson at six boards apiece.
In his sixth-straight double-digit scoring performance, Andrew White III added 13 points and three steals for the Orange. White III has found himself in double-digit scoring figures in 17-of-18 Syracuse outings this season.
Freshman Taurean Thompson, who finished the game with 10 points, began the action for Syracuse with six-straight points of his own.
After meeting at a 13-13 tie game with 12:30 to play in the first half, the Orange established a 22-9 run to mark a 13-point lead, 35-22, heading to the locker room. The margin marked the largest gap between the pair in the first half.
Syracuse used 15 first-half Boston College turnovers to convert 14 points from turnovers alone. The Orange committed just four in the first half and six on the game, the lowest total number for Syracuse this season. The Eagles went on to rack up 20 turnovers on the game, matching Eastern Michigan for an opponent high for the Orange.
Syracuse used a game-solidifying 13-0 run to establish a 27-point lead over the Eagles, 65-38. Syracuse would go on to mark the largest lead of the game at 28 points over the Eagles, 74-46, before closing out action on the hardwood on top, 76-53.
Syracuse will continue the conference slate on the road, as they travel to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina on Monday, Jan. 16. Tipoff with the Tar Heels is set for 7 p.m.
