All-star event provides exposures for top college football seniors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Orange senior defensive end De'Jon Wilson has accepted an invitation to participate in this year's College Gridiron Showcase (CGS) from Jan. 7-11 in Bedford, Texas.
Â
The CGS provides exposure and education for top college football seniors from around the country. Players are selected by a panel of football experts. Attendees are evaluated by professional football league scouts and receive professional coaching, mentoring, life-coaching and participate in seminars that will benefit them as they move forward in their professional lives in or out of football. Players are showcased through practices and a controlled scrimmage.
Â
Wilson is the second Syracuse player to take part in the CGS. 'Cuse linebacker Dyshawn Davis attended the inaugural event in 2015.
Â
A 6-3, 250-pound native of Washington, D.C., Wilson played his freshman through junior seasons at Colorado before joining the Orange as a graduate transfer in 2016. In 12 games for Syracuse, Wilson logged 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He also broke up one pass, and recovered a fumble late in the Virginia Tech game to help clinch SU's 31-17 triumph over the Hokies.
Â
Wilson is the second Orange senior to agree to participate in one of college football's many all-star events. Wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo is scheduled to compete in the Reese's Senior Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Ladd Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.
